The Mission Minor Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce registration for the 2020-21 field lacrosse season. Our season will look a lot different due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but we are working to make it feel like any normal season. We will be adhering to our strict return to play policy that is under approval by the District of Mission, which includes strict physical distancing guidelines.

Mission Field Lacrosse Season Plan

The 2019-20 Field Lacrosse season will be split into two phases. This is being done to be better prepared for when we move into league play. This could be approved at any time given how fluid the COVID-19 situation has been. The pandemic has given the executive the opportunity to explore and look at several new and creative ways to make this field season work and further the development of our players.

We would like to note that in order to be in compliance with insurance liability, you must opt into Phase 1 in order to be eligible to play in Phase 2.

Phase 1 will see us in our own “bubble” with a focus on skill development, fitness training and intrasquad scrimmages. It will run from mid-September until early December. Practices will follow our return to play plan and will run once or twice a week depending on the age level. We are aiming to hold one intrasquad scrimmage per age group per week. Players will be evaluated but still grouped by age. There will be no tryouts to make a team.

Phase 2 will be brought before the executive for approval whenever we are moved into the next phase of the BCLA plan and are approved for competitive league games. Additional fees up to $50 per player may be required in order to cover things like additional field time and referee fees.

In the event restrictions are not lifted, we will continue with Season A until late February.

NOTE: Players who are not registered between August 15 and September 18 or who do not participate in Phase 1 will not be permitted to continue into Phase 2, as they will not be covered by insurance.

Mission Field Lacrosse Update - August 11

To our members,

Since the BCLA officially cancelled all box lacrosse due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mission Lacrosse Club executive has been hard at work developing our return to play plans for the upcoming field season. Those plans were submitted to the District of Mission on July 30 and we are currently waiting for a meeting to further discuss those plans.

We have decided to move forward with presenting our plans to the membership, as well as open registration for the 2020-21 field lacrosse season, in order to be better prepared when we are given the green light to proceed.

Field lacrosse this year will look and feel much different due to strict physical distancing protocols and a limit on crowd sizes of more than 50 people. Through various meetings with the PCFLL and BCLA, as well as updates from viaSport, we have decided to split the seasons into two phases. The indications are that both the PCFLL and BCLA are working to allow for official league games to take place as soon as possible once approved by the appropriate BC health officials.

The attached forms will further explain how this will all work for our association. Our return to play plans will also be released once they are approved by the District.

Registration will be open from August 15 to September 18. The window has been shortened in order to help the executive finalize plans such as field times and roster sizes.

There will be no refunds given as fees have been designed to help the club navigate the pandemic and costs such as jerseys and shorts. It’s also been done to keep costs low for families. Team items such as sweatshirts will still be available through respective team managers.

We recognize this has been an extremely different time in all our lives and the future remains uncertain as well. However, we believe we have put the proper protocols in place and have made decisions with the best interests of players and families at heart.

July 1 Return to Lacrosse Update

To Our Members:

We’d like to give you an update on the BCLA’s Return to Lacrosse activities, and how our club is working towards the return of lacrosse in our community.

Last week, the BCLA published its guidelines (read here: bclacrosse.com/return-to-lacrosse.php). It gives us a better idea of what will and won’t be permitted, such as player-to-instructor ratios, as well as protocols around personal protective equipment (PPE).

We are now focused on providing skill-based development sessions to our members, and are working with the District of Mission to make that happen. The District has elected to keep facilities such as the Leisure Centre arena and the Mission Sports Park turf field until a return-to-play program is approved.

In the meantime, we continue to conduct weekly meetings with both the Executive and other associations in the Lower Mainland. Many associations, including ours, are postponing registration for field lacrosse until later in the summer. We are working with partners to ensure that we can launch lacrosse activities as soon as these facilities are reopened.

We are also continuing fundraising efforts. We are happy to announce two fundraisers as discussed and approved by our Executive.

Krispy Kreme Donut Fundraiser. We will be selling 500 boxes of donuts in order to help recoup some of the costs already lost due to the cancellation of the box lacrosse season. There are also pre-sales, and we encourage members to reach out to Jamie Hooper (jameser99@hotmail.com) or Shanda Collins (shanda.collins@outlook.com). This will take place on Saturday, July 4th at the Prospera Credit Union at the bottom of the Cedar Valley connector.

We also have an ongoing account at Abbotsford Regional Recycling Depot. You can take your bottles and donate the money to our Mission Lacrosse Club account. The depot is located at 750 Riverside Road, Abbotsford.

We welcome any and all volunteers looking to lend a hand at the Krispy Kreme fundraiser. We’re also looking for your input and ideas for future fundraisers, as well as skill development sessions.

We hope everyone is staying active with a lacrosse stick in their hands this summer. This has been a trying time, but we can count on each other to help pull us through the COVID-19 pandemic.
